Extended day is Nellie Muir’s after school program to give students extra opportunities to learn, practice and extend their experiences outside of the regular school day. This program includes reading intervention; math intervention; enrichment activities like choir, jaranas, dance; TAG; small groups with our counselor; SMILE; English language intervention. We work together with our After School Club (ASC) to also provide SPARK (structured physical activities), recess, and online math and reading practice. Students are provided a snack before participating in three different half-hour sessions. Students are selected in a variety of ways to participate in the program. Teachers use data to select the students for intervention groups. Other groups are self-selected or teacher nominated. Students are able to choose at least one enrichment activity and all students participate in SPARK.
